Continuing our study on the Nature of Jesus.
The heart of the Christian faith rests on a stunning truth: the eternal, exalted Jesus is also profoundly personal and near. He is not a distant ruler issuing commands from the heavens. He is the God who walks beside His people, speaks to them, dwells within them, and transforms them from the inside out.
The Eternal Christ Who Steps Close
Scripture presents Jesus as the One who existed before all things, the One through whom all creation came into being. Yet this same Jesus stepped into human history, took on flesh, and lived among ordinary people. He ate with them, listened to them, touched the sick, and welcomed the weary.
His nearness wasn’t symbolic. It was real, relational, and intentional.
A Savior Who Speaks Directly
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus speaks to individuals personally—calling them by name, addressing their fears, and inviting them into deeper fellowship. He didn’t simply teach crowds; He engaged hearts.
This is the Jesus who still speaks today through His Word and His Spirit. He is not an abstract idea or a distant deity. He is the living Lord who knows His people intimately.
Living Water From Within
In John 7:38, Jesus declares:
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
This is a breathtaking promise. Jesus doesn’t merely bless from afar—He places His life within the believer. His presence becomes an internal fountain, renewing, sustaining, and transforming.
This means:
- His guidance is not remote; it is internal.
- His comfort is not theoretical; it is felt in the soul.
- His power is not external; it flows from within.
He is the God who indwells, not just the God who oversees.
A Presence That Transforms
Because Jesus is personal and near, His presence changes people. Encounters with Him reshape identity, heal wounds, and redirect lives. His nearness is not passive—it is active, life‑giving, and transformative.
Believers don’t follow a distant king; they walk with a present Savior.
Why This Matters Today
In a world where many feel unseen, unheard, or overwhelmed, the nearness of Jesus is not just comforting—it is essential. He is not far off. He is not unreachable. He is not waiting for perfection before drawing close.
He is Emmanuel—God with us.
And more than that, He is God within us.
