Based on the study of: Jesus Nature series
A Bible study on the nature of Jesus focuses on who He is, what Scripture says about His identity, and why it matters for faith and salvation. In the KJV, the clearest starting point is John 1:1, 14: “the Word was God” and “the Word was made flesh,” showing Jesus as both divine and truly human.
Core truth
Jesus is one Person with two natures: fully God and fully man. That means He is not half God and half man, but completely divine and completely human at the same time. This is often called the hypostatic union, and it helps explain how Jesus can reveal the Father and also represent us.
Key KJV passages
- John 1:1, 14: Jesus is the eternal Word who became flesh.
- John 14:9: “he that hath seen me hath seen the Father,” showing Jesus reveals God clearly.
- Colossians 1:15: He is “the image of the invisible God,” meaning God’s character is seen in Him.
- Hebrews 1:3: He is “the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person,” a strong statement of divine revelation.
- 1 Timothy 2:5: “the man Christ Jesus” shows His real humanity as mediator.
What it means
Jesus’ divine nature means He is eternal, holy, and equal with the Father in essence. His human nature means He experienced real life—birth, growth, hunger, sorrow, temptation, and death—without sin. Because of this, He can truly reveal God to us and truly stand in our place before God.
Simple study outline
- Read John 1:1–18 and note what it says about the Word.
- Read John 14:1–11 and list what Jesus says about the Father.
- Read Hebrews 1:1–4 and write down how Jesus is described.
- Read Philippians 2:5–11 and observe His humility and exaltation.
- Read 1 Timothy 2:5 and consider why His humanity matters for mediation.
Reflection questions
- What does Jesus reveal about the Father’s character?
- Why is it important that Jesus is truly human as well as truly God?
- How does John 14:9 change the way you think about knowing God?
- What does the cross show about both the love of God and the obedience of Christ?
The nature of Jesus is not just a doctrine to memorize; it is the foundation of Christian hope. In Him, God is made known, salvation is made possible, and the Father’s heart is revealed.
