Are You R.E.A.D.Y. for the Second Coming of Christ?

Preparing for the Return of Christ

As believers, we are called to live in anticipation of one of the most glorious events in history: the return of Jesus Christ. While no one knows the day or the hour of His coming, Scripture repeatedly commands us to be ready. One simple way to remember what biblical readiness looks like is through the acronym R.E.A.D.Y.

R – Redeemed by His Blood

The foundation of our readiness is not our works, achievements, or religious activity. It is our redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Peter reminds believers:

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV)

When the trumpet sounds and Christ calls His church home, only those who have trusted Him as Savior will be ready because they belong to Him.

Before we focus on prophecy, signs, or timelines, we must first answer the most important question: Have we been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ?

E – Expecting His Return

The early church lived with a sense of expectation. They believed Christ could return at any moment, and that hope shaped the way they lived.

Paul wrote:

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;”

Titus 2:13 (KJV)

Jesus also taught:

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”

Matthew 24:42 (KJV)

Expectation produces spiritual alertness. When we truly believe the Lord may return soon, we become more focused on eternal priorities than temporary pursuits.

A ready believer is an expectant believer.

A – Abiding in Christ

Readiness is not about occasional church attendance or religious activity. It is about maintaining a daily relationship with Jesus Christ.

John exhorted believers:

“And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.”

1 John 2:28 (KJV)

Jesus Himself declared:

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”

John 15:4 (KJV)

Those who remain close to Christ through prayer, Bible study, worship, and obedience will be prepared and confident when He appears.

D – Doing the Father’s Will

Jesus repeatedly emphasized the importance of faithful service while awaiting His return.

He said:

“Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.”

Matthew 24:46 (KJV)

And Paul encouraged believers:

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord…”

1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)

Readiness is demonstrated through obedience. We are to occupy until He comes, sharing the gospel, serving others, and faithfully carrying out the work God has entrusted to us.

A servant found doing the Father’s will is a servant ready for the Master’s return.

Y – Yielded to the Holy Spirit

The Christian life cannot be lived in our own strength. God has given believers the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and transform them.

Scripture declares:

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

Romans 8:14 (KJV)

Paul also wrote:

“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”

Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)

A yielded believer allows the Holy Spirit to direct his thoughts, actions, and decisions. Such a life produces spiritual fruit and reflects the character of Christ.

When Christ returns, may He find us surrendered to His will and sensitive to His Spirit.

Are You R.E.A.D.Y.?

As we see the signs of the times unfolding and anticipate the soon return of our Lord, let us examine our hearts:

• R – Are you Redeemed by His Blood? (1 Peter 1:18-19)
• E – Are you Expecting His Return? (Titus 2:13)
• A – Are you Abiding in Christ? (1 John 2:28)
• D – Are you Doing the Father’s Will? (Matthew 24:46)
• Y – Are you Yielded to the Holy Spirit? (Romans 8:14)

The return of Christ is not intended to fill believers with fear but with hope, faithfulness, and anticipation.

Jesus gave this solemn reminder:

Matthew 24:44 (KJV)

“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
